Inspired by gospel values, the Society of St Vincent de Paul [a Catholic lay organization] leads women & men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering. In 1833 the founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, chose to model the society after our patron saint, St Vincent de Paul.
As a reflection of the whole family of God, Vincentians [members], are drawn from every ethnic & cultural background, age group, & economic level. We are united in an international society of charity by our spirit of poverty, humility, & sharing which is nourished by prayer & reflection, mutually supportive gatherings, & adherence to a basic Rule.
Organized locally, Vincentians witness God’s love by embracing all works of charity & justice in our community. We serve those neighbors in need who live within our church boundaries.
The Society also collaborates with other people of good will in relieving need and addressing its causes, making no distinction in those served because in them we see the face of Christ.
The original conference for the Society of St Vincent de Paul here in Acadiana at St Charles Borromeo church parish [formerly Sacred Heart] was established in 1895. It became inactive in 1975, but we have recently re-initiated this conference in December of 2021.
